Competition and Intellectual Property
Dennis Carlton, Professor of Economics, Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago and fellow of US National Bureau of Economic Research; specialises in economics of anti-trust, with recent work on interaction with IP regimes and issues associated with high technology industries.
A workshop for policy makers to discuss issues surrounding competition and intellectual property. The workshop will discuss the relationships between Market Power and Intellectual Property - with emphasis on how to encourage or avoid stifling innovation through use of anti-trust policy mechanisms/regulation. In particular it aims to focus on the following questions in an interactive manner.
- How should markets be defined in high technology and other industries?
- What changes if any are needed in antitrust to address issues related to high technology?
- Should there be a duty to deal in high tech industries?
- How should tie in sales be treated?
